SALT LAKE CITY -
The Mormon Zone has confirmed rumors that LDS-owned Ricks University has been put up for sale on the popular Internet auction site, eBay.
The move follows the recent sale of Brigham Young University (BYU) to Bill Gates. (See the June 26 issue of the Mormon Zone Daily)
Religion analysts, confused by the recent sale of BYU, are expressing even more confusion over the current college liguidation.
Mike Smith, the church's Director of Y2K Preparedness,
|
explained the action, "BYU was not Y2K compliant. It wasn't even close. It was going to have to be closed down at the
start of the year anyway, so we decided to cut our losses. Fortunately, our buyer didn't seem to care about Y2K. We raised so much money that we thought we would put Ricks up on the block too."
Smith continued, "We would have liked to sell Ricks to the same buyer, but potential anti-trust concerns were raised. With the absurd prices things have been
selling for on eBay recently, we expect to do quite well."
|
Analysts agree that the final auction price will be above the market value for the college. Bidding has already reached the
reserve price of $500.00 and may go even higher.
